On Friday, April 22, the resident Spanish-speaking embassies in Canberra invited to a ceremony at the National Library of Australia to celebrate, for the first time in this country, Spanish Language Day.

On the occasion, Ambassador Patricio Powell presented the General Director of the National Library, Dr. Marie-Louise Ayres FAHA, with the book All the Odes, a bilingual compilation of all the odes of Pablo Neruda.

The attendees had the opportunity to taste food and drink from the organizing countries and learn about the different regional use of the Spanish language: each representative read and explained a proverb or saying from their country, which produced more than one laugh in the audience. . Ambassador Powell told those present what it means to be "more lost than Lieutenant Bello".

The Embassies of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela participated
