Chile and Algeria hold Political Consultations

On Monday, June 6, the meeting of the Political Consultation Mechanism between Chile and Algeria was held in Santiago. The Chilean delegation was led by the Deputy Director General of Bilateral Affairs, Ambassador Rodrigo Gaete, and Algeria was represented by the Director General for the Americas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sabri Boukadoum .

These Political Consultations reviewed the main issues on the bilateral agenda. The ambassadors also exchanged views in order to strengthen the existing ties and emphasized matters regarding cooperation, trade, the monitoring of agreements under negotiation and/or in force, as well as the identification of new areas to strengthen relations.

Moreover, within the framework of these consultations, Chile reinforced its interest to move towards a closer relationship and a greater presence on the African continent, and initiatives for a greater cooperation in that regard were discussed.

Both delegations made a thorough analysis of the regional situation both in Maghreb, Arab countries, the situation in Western Sahara, and Chile’s recognition of the Palestinian State. Likewise, they reviewed the Latin American integration process that Algeria is following with great interest. They also recognized the importance of the Summit of South American - Arab Countries (ASPA) and the Africa - South America Summit (ASA) as mechanisms for political coordination and dialogue.

On behalf of Chile, the delegation reiterated its gratitude to the Government of Algeria for its gesture of solidarity that will allow the transfer of pension contributions of Chilean salaried workers who lived in Algeria. In this regard, the Algerian delegation announced that the implementation of this transfer is in its   final processing in that country.
