On Thursday, May 12, the Embassy of Chile in the Republic of Korea, represented by the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Mr. Gustavo González and the Consul Mr. Lucas Pavez, paid an official visit to the Daegu Catholic University (DCU), an activity in the frame of the celebrations for the 60 years' anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Chile and Korea.
On the occasion, Griselle Garín, Chilean PhD on History based in Seoul, offered a special lecture for advanced Spanish-speaker students, on Chilean literature and women´s contribution.
In addition, it was held the donation ceremony of the Complete Works of Gabriela Mistral, a collection of eight volumes published by the Chile National Library in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Nobel Prize of Literature award received by Mistral, the first Latin American woman to obtain this honor, in 1945.
The diplomatic delegation met with the Vice Chancellor Rev. Ahn Sang-Ho and high authorities of DCU, to discuss ways of academic cooperation and student exchange with Chilean universities. Mr. González highlighted the challenge of making national culture and arts visible in Korea, and how these activities strengthen this field. In addition, Consul Pavez stressed the importance of decentralizing the forms of cooperation, connecting institutions outside the respective capitals of the countries, to support young people from regions in Chile and Korea.
