Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

The Embassy of Chile is looking for a Political Analyst-Assistant to work in the Political Department. The Political Team oversees the embassy's and the Chilean Government's engagement with U.S.'s democratic institutions, political actors, and civil society. The person will assist in managing contacts, working with Congress, the Administration, public and private stakeholders, and our like-minded partners, also monitoring U.S. political and social developments.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

The job holder will:

  • Assist the Political team as it follows and reports on political developments both in the
  • Administration and Congressional affairs, and as it monitors legislative developments in congress.
  • Assist with the implementation of the embassy´s political engagement plan (meetings; events;
  • reports; embassy working groups) with the Embassy´s counter partners.
  • Provide general political and administrative support to the Political team, maintaining and
  • updating our political stakeholder's database, taking minutes, and assisting with diary
  • management.
  • Monitor and analyze breaking political events around priority and emerging issues for the Chilean
  • government by flagging opportunities and risks. Undertake research on political trends in the U.S.
  • towards the region.
  • Translate and/or English proof official documents, letters, and Diplomatic Notes addressed to
  • State Department, and other institutions.
  • Support the team with other political work.
  • Essential qualifications, skills, and experience
  • Strong analytical, oral, and written skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Problem-solving, attention to detail, and efficient administrative skills.
  • Proven research and reporting skills.
  • A willingness to work flexibly and as a team player.
  • Ability to interact with people at all levels of seniority.

Language requirements:

  • Language: English and Spanish
  • Level of language required: Fluent English / Spanish. Ideally business level in both written and
  • spoken.

Desirable qualifications, skills, and experience

The candidate would already have a college degree or studies in a related field (international relations, political science, etc.), some experience and/or knowledge related to U.S. Congress and Administration, hold an understanding of legislative, legal, and government workings, and knowledge of social networks management.

Other benefits and conditions of employment:

  • US$ 300 destined to cover mandatory health insurance policy.
  • 15 days of paid vacation every year, starting a year after the first twelve months.
  • Parking spot at the Embassy´s private parking, subject to availability.
  • The person will work the required to 45 hours a week, during the Embassy's working hours: 08.30-
  • 17.30 Mon-Thurs and 08.30-17.00 on Friday.
  • Must currently have the legal right to work in the U.S.
