The passport is a travel document issued for Chilean citizens or nationals (under 18 years old) allowing them to travel outside Chile and between other countries.

Process to obtain a passport at the Consulate General of Chile in San Francisco:

  • Make an appointment with Ms.Maria Moreno at 415-982-7662, or email her at It could take two weeks to get an appointment since the day you called.
  • Bring your ID card (Carnet de Identidad) and passport to your appointment. This is mandatory to obtain a passport. If for any reason you do not have your ID card, bring your consular registration of birth (first filiation) or birth certificate.
  • Complete the Consular Atencion Form
  • During your appointment you will be photographed, and your signature and fingerprint recorded electronically.

  • Fees for procedures at the Consulate General of Chile in San Francisco must be paid at the Consulate with debit or credit card VISA, MASTERCARD or DISCOVER. The Consulate General in San Francisco also accepts payments by Money Order issued by the U.S. Postal Service payable to "CONSULATE GENERAL OF CHILE". The Consulate General does not accept wire transfers, personal checks or any form of cash.
  • The applicant should consider that the appointment will last about an hour.
  • If the preparation of the document is authorized by the Civil Registry and Identification Services of Chile, the passport will be available within approximately two to three weeks after your information is submitted by the Consulate.
  • The passport valid period is 5 years.
  • To check if your passport is ready to pick up, email Maria Moreno at or call the Consulate at +1 (415) 982-7662 preferably between 2:30-4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • To pick up your document, you must submit proof of payment and the receipt provided to you the date of your data collection.
  • If for any reason your passport application is not approved by the Civil Registry and Identification Services, the Consulate staff will contact you.
