Ambassador presents the "Strait of Magellan Award" to Dr. Madhurita Gupta
On Wednesday, January 20, at the premises of the Embassy of Chile in India, the Ambassador of Chile, Juan Angulo, presented the "Strait of Magellan Award for Innovation and Exploration with Global Impact", in the international category, to Dr. Madhurita Gupta, Indian social activist, and conservationist.
The Strait of Magellan Award, established by Fundación Imagen de Chile, seeks to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the Strait of Magellan, distinguishing those who represent the spirit of entrepreneurship of this expedition and innovators who work to provide solutions to current social challenges.
Dr. Gupta's outstanding work in the field of social innovation, as the creator of the "Solar Lajja", which is a solar-powered incinerator for the disposal of sanitary napkins and other disposable products, was recognized on the occasion. The aim of "Solar Lajja" is to provide a safe and sustainable solution for the direct benefit of women living in remote and disadvantaged areas of India. Her work in this field has earned her national and international recognition, being selected as one of the top 10 Social Innovations by UN Women.
Dr. Gupta is currently based in Mumbai and is the founder of Arnav Greentech Innovations Ltd. and Myvets Charitable trust & Research Centre.
The award ceremony was attended by the Chargés d'Affaires of Argentina and Spain, as well as a representative of the Portuguese Institute of Culture in Delhi.
