Second Visual Arts Competition for Children and Youth “Celebrating Gabriela Mistral and Cultural Rights”
The Embassy of Chile to the United States, the Cultural Division of the Chilean Foreign Affairs, Gabriela Mistral Foundation, the Chilean-American Foundation and IN Series, invite children and youth to learn and express in an artistic creation the contribution of Chilean poet and Nobel Laureate, Gabriela Mistral, to cultural and children's rights.
This year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral's Nobel Prize in Literature, the world's highest recognition awarded by the Academy of Sweden. On December 10, 1945 upon receiving the Nobel Prize, she became the first Latin American author and the fifth woman to receive this honor.
Gabriela Mistral was a leading intellectual, poet, dedicated educator and a diplomat, a representative figure of Latin American culture, and internationally recognized as an advocate for children's rights in the twentieth century. Her "deep engagement and mastery of poetic form" is a testament to Mistral's enduring social and ethical concerns for education, pedagogical thinking focused on the development and protection for children and the mistreated.
This year, as we celebrate Gabriela Mistral's important milestone, we wish to highlight her work in human rights, through visual arts.
