What does it consist in?

It is the application for an Old Age Pension in relation to contributions made and pursuant to relevant regulations of the former Social Welfare Fund to which the fellow national is affiliated. The ex– Funds of the former Chilean Pension System are currently merged into the Social Security Institute (IPS, for its acronym in Spanish). The Old Age Pension is a lifetime monetary benefit provided monthly to which the contributor is entitled upon retirement.

Where can it be requested?

At the Consulates of Chile.

Requirements

Overview:

For example, those affiliated to the former Social Security Service.

Women:

  • Being 60 years of age or older
  • Having at least 520 weeks of contributions

Men:

  • Being 65 years of age or older
  • Having 1,040 weeks of contributions

Having met these requirements, attach the following documents:

  • Chilean Birth Certificate
  • Authenticated photocopy of Identity Card
  • Single Application for Pension Benefits, pointing out the benefit requested, duly signed by the party with signature and stamp from the Consul acting as a Certifying Officer
  • File card of Benefit Remittance
  • Banking Certificate of the applicant's account (indicating the following: bank name, bank address, branch, type and account number, transfer SWIFT code)
  • Certificate of Contributions

Who can apply for this benefit?

Chilean nationals living abroad who meet the requirements according to the former Social Welfare Fund to which they are affiliated.

It should be noted that each of the ex-Funds, merged into the current IPS, have different demands in relation to the eligibility requirements for Old Age Pension benefit according to their specific regulations. The beneficiaries of pensions or benefits from the Social Security Institute living in Argentina or Sweden are dispensed with the submission of the bank records requirement requested for the payment of their benefits abroad. Beneficiaries can indicate this at the Consulate handling their application and request the sending of their benefit payment through Western Union.
