Request for a Disability Pension for Chilean citizens residing overseas

What does it consist in?

  • The request for a Disability Pension comprises a temporary or lifetime monthly monetary Benefit for Chilean citizens who are residing overseas and are physically or mentally disabled to perform their duties at work and have paid deductions in one of the ex Equalization Aid Funds, currently grouped in the Contingency Normalization Institute.(INP, in Spanish).
  • Permanent Disability Pension

It is granted to deduction payers suffering from an illness or the weakening of intellectual or physical powers, whether or not as a consequence of work, which totally and definitively disqualify it for the performance of duties at work.

  • Temporary Disability Pension it is granted to deduction payers suffering from an illness or the weakening of their intellectual and physical powers which disables temporarily, for a period not shorter than a year or longer than five, for the performance of duties at work.

Where can it be requested?

At the Consulates of Chile abroad.

Who is it addressed to?

To Chilean citizens who were deduction payers in some of the ex Equalization Aid Funds of the former Chilean Contingency System, currently grouped in the Contingency Normalization Institute.

Firstly, the "Single Contingency Benefit Request Form" must be requested by the respective Consulate to the Social Contingency Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the following documentation:

  • Authenticated copy of Identity Card.
  • Contingency Report and Deduction Certificate.
  • Certificate or medical records on the pathology.

The applicant must prove, by means of a Deduction Certificate granted by INP (Contingency Normalization Institute), certain period of deduction payments depending on the regulations governing the ex Contingency Fund where the applicant is affiliated. Once this documentation is provided, the "Disability Pension Request Form" is sent to start with the proceedings for the benefit.

Then, the following documentation will be necessary:

  • Records for Consignment of Benefit.
  • Disability Pension Request Form, completed by a treating physician, signed by the applicant and stamped by the Consulate.
  • All the medical examinations, medical certificates, X- rays, as well as other means of medical certification allowing the Commission of Preventive Medicine for Disability (COMPIN, in Spanish) to ascertain and determine the disability and its degree.
  • Identity Card.
  • Birth Certificate.

Result

Concession or denial of a Disability Pension Benefit.

Fees

Depending on the kind of documents requested to be issued and legalized, such as Birth, Medical or another kind of Certificates.

Observations

Additional records may be requested during application procedures.

The beneficiaries of pensions or benefits from the Social Security Institute living in Argentina or Sweden are dispensed with the submission of the bank records requirement requested for the payment of their benefits abroad. Beneficiaries can indicate this at the Consulate handling their application and request the sending of their benefit payment through Western Union.
